Our brand new Community Center/Library is now a reality.  Starting October 30 through November 1, new bookshelves and other furniture were moved in.  Then on November 2 at noon, the Nezperce Elementary students, with lots of local volunteers, started forming a line from the old library to the new library.  Books then started their progress down the line, hand over hand, until they reached the new library where they were met by Nezperce Library and Prairie-River Library District staff and volunteers who then had the enormous task of putting them in the right order on the brand new shelves.  The elementary students soon were joined by the junior and senior high students, with more adults joining throughout the event.  Over 4,500 books were passed in this manner until all that could be moved had been moved.  The Lewiston Morning Tribune was on hand to video the move as well as interview lots of people and to take more pictures.

The City Council has put together a rental agreement/policy to cover the use of the Community Room.  New chairs and tables have arrived more furnishings may be added as the City determines the best uses of the room and to make this a truly wonderful meeting place for all who may wish to use it for any number of activities.
This project has been a community-wide accomplishment.  There are so many people to thank for their continued efforts.  The building committee, who have spent innumerable hours planning and fundraising to make this happen, a wonderful community who have responded with volunteer labor and money to enable all of this to take place.  Our city council members, mayor and city clerk who have put in lots of their time to help make all of this happen, and of course, the Prairie-River Library District.    There isn’t enough space to name each of these people individually, just please know WE know who you are and you will be recognized when the time comes.
Family History Profiles is an ongoing fundraising project for the library.  For $1,000, pictures and a brief family history will be mounted in an 8x10 frame to be placed in a special community history area of the new library.
We are still accepting donations that will enable us to continue furnishing and operating the Community Center/Library.  Donations can be dropped off at the Library or mailed - Library address:  PO Box 124 - Nezperce, ID 83543.
