New Community Center/Library
Construction Pictures Family History Profiles
As we near the completion of our brand new building, many things are happening. Around town, the new storm drains have been installed, the lagoon outside of town has been redone, new sidewalks are being poured, streets are being readied for new pavement and new planter strips. A whole new look for our downtown area. Our brand new Community Center/Library is becoming a reality. Interior walls have been painted their first coats, vinyl laid, counters and cabinets installed, chair rails and base trim have been cut, stained and installed; doors are readied to be put in place as well as further trim work around windows, doors, etc. Heat pumps are working and our beautiful fireplace is being readied to keep us warm and toasty on those chilly wintry days. Completion date has been set for October 26, with a walk-through the next day. After that we will be moving in brand new bookcases - thanks to the beautiful work of Carl Grobey and his family – and our other essential furniture that needs to be in place before our collection of books and other items are moved the following week (hopefully November 2, if all goes as planned). The City Council has set up a committee to determine what furnishing the community room will need, such as: tables, chairs and other furnishings to make this a truly wonderful meeting place for all who may wish to use this room for any number of activities. They are also putting together a policy/agreement to cover the use of the facility. We have already started to plan activities for our new meeting room. On November 13, 7:00 p.m. we will host Everybody Reads (click on previous words to see more) with author David Guterson who will discuss his current book as well as his other works. Then the following week will be Idaho Family Reading Week (November 15-21) which will come together in a Family Reading Day on November 16. (Click on KIDZONE to see what is planned here). This project has been a community wide accomplishment. There are so many people to thank for their continued efforts. The building committee, who have spent innumerable hours planning and fundraising to make this happen, a wonderful community who have responded with volunteer labor and money to enable all of this to take place. Our city council members, mayor and city clerk who have put in lots of their time to help make all of this happen, the Prairie-River Library District. There isn’t enough space to name each of these people individually, just please know WE know who you are and you will be recognized when the time comes.
Family History Profile is an ongoing fundraising project for the library. For $1,000, pictures and a brief family history will be mounted in an 8x10 frame to be placed in a special community history area of the new library.
